$100 Student Giveaway

Are you a college student looking for some extra spending cash?  Well we’re here to hook you up!  We’re not exactly giving it away though, we’re looking to stimulate the online creativity of the student population!

To enter you must create a website related to beer pong and host it on your student account at your university.

What are we looking for in a website?

Your website must have something to do with beer pong or college life.  We’re not looking for anything fancy, page design is NOT a factor in this contest.  Here are a few ideas of what we’re looking for:

-Interesting/funny college or beer pong stories
-funny pictures
-your house’s beer pong rules
-how to make a beer pong table
-your ideal beer pong table
-how to play various forms of beer pong like strip pong, civil war, assassin, etc
-results of a recent beer pong tournament

As long as it has to do with beer pong or college life we’ll take it!  The only thing that we require is a link pointing to our main website, and your website must be hosted from your University Student Account.

Note: Page design and concept originality are NOT a factor in this contest.  An entry is an entry, the winner is drawn completely at random.  Also your website only needs to be one page.

All website content must be in your own words.  We will be checking the content against www.copyscape.com so you can’t just copy and paste another site’s info and place it on yours.  We’re not asking for much, we just want it to be original.

How to create a webpage:

If you don’t know the first thing about creating a website, don’t worry we got your back. Simply download this WEBPAGE TEMPLATE. This is a zip file containing two files; an HTM file and a README file. The README file will walk you through putting together your beer pong website.

Hosting from your Student Account

If you goto a university in the United States then you most likely have a Student Account.  This student account has a public_html folder.  The contents of this folder are displayed to the world.  Take a look at the example website I put together which is hosted from my student account at SUNY Albany, NY:

My Beer Pong Page

All universities have different student accounts, in order to get your webpage onto your personal student account you should either:

-contact your school’s ITS department.  They undoubtedly have a walkthrough on uploading your page to your student account.
-ask any Information Science or Computer Science major.  They will know how to do it, they will probably even do it for you if you can get them a copy of your page. Note: NEVER give your student account password out to anyone for any reason.

ONLY webpages hosted from a university student account with a link pointing to our main page (http://www.beer-pong-tables.com) will be accepted for entry into the drawing.

Giveaway

On February 25th, one website will be chosen at random to recieve the $100 prize!  We are considering continuing the promotion into later months, depending on it’s popularity.  Entries will be eligible to win in these months as well.

As of January 02, 2009 there is only 1 website entered for the drawing.

Once your website is up and hosted on your student account, send us an email with the following information:

Your name

RSS Hugger is a website dedicated to helping blogs gain exposure to their personal blog and or posts.  It is run by Collin LaHay who is a well known internet marketer so it is well maintained and updated.  The interface is very simple and easy to navigate.

If you aren’t familiar with RSS, it is a way for internet users to easily gather the latest news feeds from their favorite sources and view them in a News Aggregator.  This way the user doesn’t have to goto each website, instead they can just open the NA and it will let them browse through and view the newest news feeds from each Blog.

If you own a blog or you are interested in RSS, take a look at RSS Hugger sometime. It is a great website for anyone who uses the internet whether you are a publisher or a reader.

Our blog hasn’t seen much action lately but we will be starting to update it every week with cool beer pong related information!

From all of us here at ProPong Beer Pong Tables we want to wish you a Happy New Year!

On August 11th, our friends over at Bohica Castle (our favorite local party house) hosted another beer pong tournament, first prize was $500! We participated and brought some of our collapsible beer pong tables because its the least we can do for all the great times we have had over there ;)

Naturally our friends over at BC came to us and asked us the best format to run a beer pong tournament. Assuming there might be others out there who are interested in running and hosting their own beer pong tournament, I figured I would write an article about it since we’ve done it many times.

You can hold a beer pong tournament any place that has enough room for a few regulation beer pong tables. The dimensions of beer pong table range from seven to eight feet in length and 2 to 3 ft in width (our beer pong table dimensions are 7.5 ft by 2 ft). The number of playing surfaces needed can be determined by how many teams are expected to show up:

8 teams- 1 tables
16 teams - 2 tables
32 - 3 or 4
64 - 5

The amount of pong tables you want to use is also dependant on how long you would like the tournament to last. If you want the tournament to wrap up at a reasonable hour so everyone can party afterwards, then use an extra beer png table. If you want the tournament to be going on during a party throughout the entire night, then use one less table.

A really laid back and casual tournament may not feel it necessary to supply the participants with beer and cups, but I feel if you’re going to do this, do it right. Charge everyone a few bucks, pay off the beer and the cups, divy the rest up among the top finishers. A 32 team tournament will require 64 beers if your tournament is using 6 cups per game, 128 if you’re using 10 cups per game. Depending on what beer you get, that could cost anywhere from 75$ to 150$. When I host tournaments I pay for cups but it is not a necessity, I just think its a little perk that everyone appreciates. Only costs about 35$ to supply 32 teams each with their own beer pong cups.

There are basically two ways to run a tournament, Bracket Style or Round Robin:

Bracket Style
Make sure you get a number of teams divisible by 8 so no teams get “bys”. Single elimination is the most traditional way to play, which is setup like a NCAA bracket and the last team standing is the winner. Double elimination takes longer but a lot of times can be more fun because teams aren’t initially hit with the anxiety of getting knocked out of the tournament. Keep in mind, double elimination tournaments tend to take twice as long and cost twice as much for beer.

Round Robin
More suited for tournaments with 8 or less teams. Each team plays each team once, the team with the best record at the end wins. These tournaments are really fun because everybody gets to play for the entire tournament regardless of their performance, and it is really the best way to determine who the best team is. In bracket style a team may have one bad game and get eliminated, but in round robin the best beer pong team generally wins.

Whichever style you decide, investing in a whiteboard is never a bad idea. You can get one that hangs on your wall and is big enough to fit 32 teams at Walmart for like 12$ with the markers and re use it for all future events.

Beer pong tournaments are fun time for all involved, but its important that you do it right. Make sure that all the contestants are legal drinking age and never let anyone drink and drive, both things can be traced back to you and could land you in some serious trouble. As long as you handle things responsibly, you should have no problems.

…And of course if you are looking for some great beer pong tables to host your tournament, you’ve already found the right place ;)
